Here is a howto article on making a small magnetic coil motor. I actually tried to make one of these when I was a little kid. I saw it somewhere, and of course it did not work. I see the trick that I missed. You have to have insulated wire, and have to scrape off half of the insulation on the wire that sticks out. That is what allows the current to go through the wire. We should all know that current going through a coil causes it to become a magnet. You have seen the electromagnet nail right? That is basically how this works. You create a magnet, and the poles force the coil away from the stationary magnet. Then it loses the current because of the insulation, and the coil continues to spin around. This is a pretty fun and inexpensive project. If any of you try it, let me know if it works. Send me a pic, and I will post it.
